Paul George on embracing the "supporting" role with the Sixers: "I gotta fit in"
Nine-time NBA All-Star Paul George has seen his role with the Philadelphia 76ers considerably change from what he was used to for much of his career. PG, however, has no qualms about it, seeing how a supporting role for him fits better with what the team is trying to build.
PHILADELPHIA -- Entering his second season with the Philadelphia 76ers, all eyes were on Paul George and whether the 9-time All-Star could get back to the player he once was to help the Sixers succeed. He had a miserable 2024-25 season, as did the entire team, and was hoping to bounce back.
On Jan. 9, 2021, with only seven players available for the Sixers, a rookie guard named Tyrese Maxey scored 39 points in the first start of his professional career. The rest, as they say, is history.
Kelly Oubre Jr. and Trendon Watford are both likely to make their return from their respective injuries Wednesday.
For the Philadelphia 76ers, that guy is Dominick Barlow. A 4-year big man from Overtime Elite, Barlow is averaging 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 54.2% and starting 22 of the 25 games he has played in while on a two-way deal. He is somebody who doesn't need the ball to produce and is a reliable piece for coach Nick Nurse and Co.
