Mobileye made its name, and money, by supplying automakers with millions of computer vision chips designed to support automotive safety features and later advanced driver assistance systems. Mobileye Global on Tuesday said it would acquire humanoid robotics startup Mentee Robotics for about $900 million, as the Israeli self-driving technology firm bets on what it sees as the next frontier of artificial intelligence.

Shares of Mobileye Global climbed after the company agreed to acquire artificial-intelligence robotics startup Mentee Robotics for $900 million. The stock gained 11%, to $13.55, in after-hours trading Tuesday.

SwitchBot says the Onero is a general-use humanoid robot designed to eliminate housework that can complete “everyday actions such as grasping, pushing, opening, and organizing, while learning to adapt across different tasks and home scenarios.”
